ZDP-189 Steel

ZDP-189 is a powder steel developed by Hitachi Metals Co., Ltd. ZDP-189 contains 3% carbon and 20% chromium. After heat treatment, it can reach a high hardness of HRC65-67. Due to its characteristics, knives are often made of Hitachi powder ZDP-189 core sandwiched between two layers of softer stainless steel to retain its sharpness and edge retention.
